Due to the blockage of the Suez Canal, five ships with 60.4 thousand sheep and 421 cows were stuck in a traffic jam for six days. This was announced on Monday by the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.
According to the agency, the ships with live cattle were on their way from Spain and Romania to Saudi Arabia. In agreement with the Suez Canal Authority, Minister As-Seyyid al-Quseir said, three veterinary teams boarded the ships and examined the animals. As the minister noted, "the general state of animal HEALTH on all five ships is good, there are no signs of epidemics or infectious diseases." They were provided with 190 tons of feed and 120 tons of water.
On Monday, a passage was opened along the canal, blocked by the Ever Given container ship with a displacement of 220 thousand tons and a length of 400 m of the Japanese company Shohei Kisen, which was stuck across the channel. The incident occurred in conditions of strong winds and a sandstorm. it took six days to refloat the ship with the help of 14 powerful tugs, and before that, dredging was carried out.
As a result, 422 vessels lined up in line for passage. Already by Tuesday morning, the channel's management is counting on the passage of 113 ships in both directions.
