The Gambia currently imports a significant amount of poultry MEAT from Poland and the United States and the Delegation believed that finding alternative suppliers could benefit their country. The population of The Gambia is about 2.3 million people, of which 90% are Muslims, so poultry is the most popular type of meat there. As Hassan Jallow explained to TASS, in addition to its own consumption, the Gambia wants to create a hub for the sale of products of Belgorod companies for the Economic Community of West African States, which has more than 420 million consumers.
The delegation also discussed with the management of the company "Clear Dawns" the possibility of training personnel for agriculture in the Gambia. The country plans to send its specialists for training at the Yasnye Zori feed mill. Hassan Jallow explained that the main problem in the development of the poultry industry in the Gambia is the lack of quality feed, so it is planned to adopt the feed production technology from the Belgorod company.
Oleg Orekhov, general DIRECTOR of the Belgrankorm branch of the IPC Yasnye Zori, said that there were no deliveries to the Gambia yet, only intentions are being discussed. “This was the first visit, a preliminary agreement was reached on the possibility of EXPORT. Volumes and other details have not yet been determined,” he said. Orekhov also added that the Gambian market was chosen because none of the Russian poultry meat suppliers export their goods there.
According to Konstantin Korneev, Executive Director of Rincon Management, Africa is a very promising region for the development of exports of products, including the meat group. Deliveries there are characterized by a fairly low price in this market. Therefore, the main difficulty is to make an adequate price offer, the expert draws attention. There are also logistical difficulties. “Otherwise, everything is positive: initially loyal attitude towards Russian companies, the growing young population of the region,” he says. - The main and most paying customers in the region are government agencies. It is very important that the company has the opportunity to conduct not only trade transactions, but also be able to build relationships at the level of the country's leadership.”
The average cost of a kilogram of poultry meat for this region is in the range of $1-1.3, Korneev knows. “Therefore, we will also talk about the structure of the assortment that will be shipped. I assume that the emphasis will be on cheaper products. The development of supplies allows us to gain a foothold in this region. Social ties and feedback from the distributor are very important there,” the expert concludes.
