Strawberry production is expanding on Sakhalin

In 2009, in the village of Starorusskoye, a peasant (farmer) economy of Odintsova Natalya was created. The main activity was the cultivation of garden strawberries. The development of the economy took place with certain difficulties, but nevertheless, for more than three years, the islanders have been buying berries produced at the Strawberry from Natasha EcoFarm.

In 2017, on behalf of the Governor of the Sakhalin Region, a procedure was developed for providing state support measures to agricultural producers for the establishment of perennial fruit and berry plantations. The amount of support was 90% for the purchase and establishment of plantations of fruit and berry crops.

During this period, the son, Artem Odintsov, took over the reins of the economy, taking shape as an individual entrepreneur. And with the help of state support measures, he expanded the production base of his farm, increasing the planting area and the volume of gross berry production.

For 10 years of work, we managed to create a dynamically developing modern economy. Production began with 1 ha, and in 2021, the planting area of garden strawberries was 8.5 ha. The gross harvest has already amounted to 40 tons of berries. There are plans to increase the area in 2022 to 10 hectares, in 2023 to 12 hectares. In addition, when carrying out all agrotechnical work in accordance with the technological maps, it is planned to increase the gross harvest and yield, as well as improve the commercial quality of the grown berries.

In 2022, it is also planned to conduct variety trials for blueberries, raspberries and other berry bushes, followed by a planting area of 2 to 6 hectares for each type of berry.

In order to provide the residents of the island with berries all year round, the farm is developing a technology for small-scale planting of garden strawberries in greenhouses for a year-round use.

So, in 2021, the area of greenhouses amounted to 0.25 hectares. Collected and sold: in September - 1.5 tons, in October - 1 ton of dessert berries. The collection is ongoing now, in November, and will continue in December. And this is good news. It should be noted that in 2022 it is planned to increase the area of greenhouses to 0.5 hectares. From 2023-2026 - an increase in the area of greenhouses to 3 hectares.

Constant technological modernization, a scientific approach to agriculture, the use of modern means of plant protection and nutrition, the use of soil and leaf analysis laboratories allow us to look to the future with optimism, not only in terms of increasing crop areas, but also improving the quality and taste of berries.

One of the priority goals is the construction of a modern year-round complex for growing strawberries, which will allow supplying residents and producers of the region with fresh berries all year round. The construction of the complex is scheduled for 2023-2025.

“We are developing dynamically, only thanks to state support measures,” the entrepreneur says, “and therefore we can safely make plans to expand production, increase the gross volume of berries and expand the range.”

With state support, a car was also purchased to organize the sale of berry products to retail outlets in the city.
Currently, this is the only farm in the Sakhalin Region that produces berries with an extended shelf life, i.e. out of season.
The development of IP Artem Odintsov will have a positive impact on the range of berry crops offered to the population of the region from a local producer.
