The damage suffered by Ukraine as a result of the Russian military operation, from damage to infrastructure and buildings, has reached $60 billion, World Bank President David Malpass said at an online WB conference, REUTERS reports.
Malpass clarified that this is a preliminary estimate that does not include economic costs, it is about damage caused by the destruction of infrastructure and buildings. As the fighting continues, casualties will rise, he added.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, who participated in the conference, gave a different assessment. “According to very preliminary estimates, Ukraine lost $550 billion as a result of the destruction,” he said (quoted by RIA Novosti). According to him, the country needs $7 billion a month to compensate for economic losses.
Zelensky believes that Russian assets frozen as a result of sanctions can be used to restore Ukraine and repair the damage suffered by other countries, Reuters reports.
