In Moscow, a farewell ceremony will be held for the DIRECTOR and actor Vladimir Menshov, who died from the consequences of a CORONAVIRUS infection.

The ceremony will begin at 11 o'clock in the Great Hall of the House of Cinema on Vasilyevskaya Street, 13. Later, he will be buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery, said Mikhail Kalinin, secretary of the Union of Cinematographers of RUSSIA.

At the end of June, Menshov, along with his wife, actress Vera Alentova, was taken to the hospital with covid-19 . On July 5, Mosfilm reported that Menshov had died. He was 81 years old.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin expressed their condolences to the actor's family .

Menshov was born in 1939 in Baku, studied in Moscow, first at the acting department of the Moscow Art Theater School named after V. Nemirovich-Danchenko, and then in graduate school at the directing department at VGIK.

In the early 1970s, Menshov began acting in films, and in 1976 he made his full-fledged directorial debut - the film "Joke" was released.

Among his most famous works is the painting Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears (1979), which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, Love and Doves (1984) and Shirley Myrli (1995).
