The spread of the omicron strain of CORONAVIRUS in the world may lead to the end of the covid-19 pandemic . This was stated in an interview with radio Sputnik by a virologist, professor at the Gamaleya Center Anatoly Altshtein.
“Even if it turns out that it is so contagious that it will spread throughout the world, it will be a milder disease than it is now, maybe even much milder. <...> Now about 3% die (of patients -), and with this strain, if it really spreads, then most likely the pathogenicity will be reduced, ”he said.
According to him, the pandemic will be considered over if the lethality of COVID-19 is comparable to the influenza virus. “The pandemic has a chance to end with an omicron,” he pointed out.
