The use of gloves does not play a significant role in the spread of CORONAVIRUS, the fact that they stop wearing them in Moscow will not worsen the situation. This was stated to RBC by the HEAD of the laboratory of especially dangerous infections of the Federal Research Center for Fundamental and Translational Medicine (FRC FTM), Professor of Virology Alexander Chepurnov.
According to the expert, it is much more important to continue to use masks, as well as pay attention to hand hygiene. “With regard to hands, it would be more correct to pay attention to hand washing and, most importantly, self-discipline: do not climb on the mucous membranes with unwashed hands, do not rub your eyes, do not lick your fingers, at least without washing your hands with soap - this is essential. I don’t think that something will get worse if they stop wearing gloves, ”Chepurnov said.
Sergei Voznesensky, Associate Professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Peoples' Friendship University of RUSSIA, agrees with him. According to him, the abolition of wearing gloves in the capital will not have a serious impact on the epidemiological process.
“As far as I know, no country in the world has a plan to wear gloves in the fight against covid-19 . In my opinion, if we observe hand hygiene, it will be more effective than wearing gloves,” Voznesensky said.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on July 30 canceled the mandatory wearing of gloves in public places of the capital. He explained this decision by a sharp decrease in the number of detected infections and hospitalizations of patients. However, wearing masks remains a requirement.
