Moscow's Golovinsky District COURT sentenced Yevgeny Makovsky, former acting director of the St. Petersburg Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums (SPbNIIVS), to nine years in prison on corruption charges, the press service for Moscow's courts of general jurisdiction reported.
Makovsky was found guilty of committing crimes under Part 3 of Article 30 and Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code (attempted bribery). He will serve his sentence in a maximum-security penal colony.
The second defendant in this case was Irkutsk resident Igor Rudykh. He was charged under Part 4 of Article 291.1 of the Criminal Code (bribery mediation) and sentenced to eight years' imprisonment in a special regime penal colony.
Makovsky was arrested last December. He had led the SPbNIIVS for several months and replaced Vitaly Trukhin, who was arrested in September on charges of embezzling 437 million rubles.
According to investigators, Makovsky demanded a BRIBE of approximately 20 million rubles to extend a contract with a distributor of the vaccine.Rusbiopharm LLC's Konvasel covid-19 case . In September, a court seized a penthouse in a business-class residential complex in the Fili district of western Moscow, which belonged to Makovsky's wife, as well as another apartment in the same complex.
SPbNIIVS is included in the list of systemically important and strategic enterprises in RUSSIA. The Ministry of HEALTH registered the Convasel vaccine in March 2023. it was later included in the list of vital and essential drugs.
