The case detected in Győr-Moson-Sopron County is part of the first outbreak declared in the country and is located within an additional restriction zone already established.

Before slaughter, the animals were given suppressive vaccination in accordance with the protocols of Delegated Regulation ( EU ) 2020/687. The European Commission has extended the restriction zone to include the Papa district in Veszprém County and several districts in Vas County, such as Papok, Kenyeri and Repcelak.

Since the outbreak began in March, there have been five outbreaks reported in Hungary and six cases in Slovakia on livestock farms. In total, more than 14,000 animals have now been reported suffering from the disease in both countries.

Confirmed outbreaks in Hungary are concentrated in the northwest of the country, and although no sick animals have been identified in some cases, strict sanitary measures have been taken to prevent the spread of the virus.

Strengthening supervision in Spain

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) recommends that industry professionals step up cleaning and disinfection measures for vehicles and reinforce passive surveillance on farms. In cases of suspected foot-and-mouth disease, the official veterinary service of the relevant autonomous community must be notified immediately.
