Transition to beef breeds of cows in Komi: new opportunities for agriculture

Among the most popular MEAT breeds chosen by local farmers are Aberdeen Angus, Hereford and Galloway. These breeds are known for their high productivity and meat quality. The Aberdeen Angus breed is famous for its tender marbled meat, the Hereford is distinguished by its good adaptability to climatic conditions, and the Galloway is known for its durability and fattening efficiency.

According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Komi Republic, within the framework of the Agrostartup program, three peasant farms specializing in beef cattle breeding were created from 2020 to 2024 , which allows farmers to invest in high-quality breeding cattle and infrastructure.

At the beginning of 2025, the total number of beef cattle in the Ust-Tsilemsky district reached 488 heads, which is a significant increase compared to 465 heads in 2024. In 2024, 615 heads of cattle were sent for slaughter , which is 76 heads more than in the previous year. The total weight of sold cattle was 207 tons, which corresponds to 115% of the 2023 level.

The transition to beef cattle breeds creates new jobs in rural areas and can increase the level of food security in the region, improving the quality of life of local residents. Given the current trends and government support, we can expect continued growth in beef cattle breeding in the Ust-Tsilemsky District.
