it was discovered in one of the largest commercial chicken farms in the city of Chitose. Initial symptoms were detected in one of the birds, then within a few days the number of affected livestock increased. Laboratory analysis confirmed a positive reaction to the virus. In this regard, more than 310 thousand heads were destroyed. Two buffer zones were also created: three and 10 kilometers from the affected farm. In the first of them, quarantine was introduced for the transportation of chickens and eggs, and in the second, the EXPORT of these products was prohibited. An internal investigation into the incident is underway.
The new outbreak is the third case this year and the 84th since late October last year when the virus first entered the country. In total, they were found in 25 out of 47 regions of the country. In the 2022-23 agricultural year (recall that it began in July last and will end in June of the current calendar year), more than 15 million poultry were killed in Japan. This is 5.13 million more than in the 2020-2021 agricultural year, when the last record was recorded.
