Two cases of fatal poisoning with toxic liquids have been recorded by state forensic experts of the Mogilev Region over the past three months, BelTA learned from Irina Rachkovskaya, official representative of the State Forensic Expertise Department for the Mogilev Region.
In May, a 49-year-old man was taken from his home to the intensive care unit of a hospital in Babruisk with suspected acute poisoning with
ALCOHOL substitutes. Without regaining consciousness, he died less than a day later. Forensic medical examinations were conducted to establish the cause of death of the Babruisk resident.
Chemical experts from the State Forensic Expertise Committee for the Mogilev Region found a dangerous chemical substance, ethylene glycol, in the blood and internal organs of the corpse in a concentration twice as high as the lethal one. This substance caused the acute poisoning from which the man died. A pink liquid from a canister, which was seized at the deceased's place of residence, was also examined. As confirmed by chemical examination,
it contained ethylene glycol.
In the second case in Slavgorod in June, the body of a 53-year-old local resident was found without signs of life at his place of residence. As established by forensic experts, the day before he consumed methyl alcohol: methanol was found in the blood of the deceased in a concentration that was six times higher than the lethal one. During the inspection of the apartment where the man lived, an empty five-liter PET bottle from under the windshield washer fluid was found in the kitchen. Chemical experts also found methyl alcohol in the swabs from the bottle.
As noted by experts, a lethal dose of methyl alcohol is about 30-50 ml, ethylene glycol - 100-150 ml. The life and
HEALTH of the victim with this type of poisoning depends on the speed of first aid: the faster - the higher the chances.
