PIONERPRODUKT.by continues to publish videos from the AgroExpedition “Agriculture and agritourism in Armenia”. In this video, we will get acquainted with the activities and scientific work of the Gyumri breeding station.
Gyumri Breeding Station is a state scientific organization specializing in primary seed production and livestock breeding, which conducts breeding work on grain, leguminous and oilseeds. At the same time, the station is financed not at the expense of the country's budget, but at the expense of income from the result of its own activities.
The station was founded in 1924 by the great Russian scientist P.P. Vavilov, therefore it has a rich history and unique breeding experience. By the centenary, a book about the significant pages of the unique station's activity will be published.
Currently, the total area of land exceeds 320 hectares, while management notes that there are close negotiations with the Ministry of Economy on the allocation of new land.
Organizationally, the station consists of two main departments: the scientific department, which grows original varieties for the tasks of the station, and the production department, which grows original varieties for further sale to organizations and farmers in Armenia.
The station is armed with harvesters, the headers of which are adapted for harvesting various crops. At present, it is planned to increase the technological park by opening new branches of the experimental station in other regions of the country.
A lot of scientific work is being carried out at the station to develop new drought-resistant varieties of grain, which will bring a good harvest without additional fertilizers and irrigation.
On the field, our attention was drawn to the construction in the form of a house with a cone-shaped pipe. It turns out that this is an anti-hail gun, which is produced in Armenia. We have never seen such anti-hail guns! The principle of operation is based on a gas explosion that generates a loud sound wave. At the same time, the gun is controlled from the phone and powered by a solar battery.
All guns in the country are integrated into the emergency warning system, the staff of which can automatically turn on these anti-hail guns based on the results of the analysis of weather data, as well as the staff of the station.
