June 24, Mogilev. Since the beginning of the year, seven cases of fatal methanol poisoning have been registered in the Mogilev region. This was told to BelTA by Irina Rachkovskaya, Chief Specialist for Media Relations of the Department of the State Forensic Examination Committee for the Mogilev Region.

Four such cases occurred in early May. Thus, the corpse of a 37-year-old man was found in Chausy. During the forensic medical examinations, it was established that he died from acute poisoning with methyl ALCOHOL. "Methanol was found in his blood at a concentration exceeding the lethal dose by almost six times," said Irina Rachkovskaya.

The same cause of death in two Mogilev women aged 46 and 73. In the blood of both forensic chemists found methanol, the concentration of which was twice the lethal dose.

"Most often, such cases occur due to the use of methanol-containing liquids. As a rule, these are car windshield washer fluids of counterfeit origin, bought from hands, or counterfeit alcoholic beverages," Irina Rachkovskaya emphasized.

Forensic experts of the UGKSE for the Mogilev region remind that the use of methyl alcohol leads to disability (loss of vision) or death. At home, it is impossible to distinguish methyl alcohol from ethyl alcohol - they have an almost identical smell and taste. "Do not drink alcoholic beverages of unknown origin, in non-original containers, without excise stamps, purchased from the hands. It must be remembered that even the highest quality alcohol is dangerous in excess," the experts added.
