Vector estimated the timing of the end of the COVID-19 pandemic

With the current low rates of vaccination against Coronavirus around the world, the pandemic will not end in 2022, Alexander Semyonov, Head of the branch of the Vector State Scientific Center for Virology and Biotechnology in Yekaterinburg, told RIA Novosti.

“While maintaining the current, very low rates of vaccination around the world, we will fight the coronavirus pandemic as early as 2022, and only then do we have a chance to complete IT,” Semyonov said.

The rapid end of the pandemic depends primarily on the pace of the emergence of herd immunity, he noted. According to him, according to the experience of past years, for example, the Hong Kong flu, this process can take two to three years.

In mid-July, Deputy Director for Research at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Gorelov stated that it would be possible to talk about a downward trend in the incidence of COVID-19 no earlier than the beginning of August, subject to a conscious attitude of citizens to vaccination and compliance with anti-epidemic measures. “Since an active increase in the incidence began in the first ten days of June, now we are gradually moving to a stabilization phase, which will last throughout July and, probably, early August. And only then, perhaps, it will be possible to talk about a trend towards the beginning of a decrease in the incidence, ”said Gorelov.
