The workers of Gastellovskoye OJSC were among the first to complete the harvesting campaign in the fields of the Minsk region. The current harvest, despite the vagaries of the weather, has turned out to be extremely productive: the farm has once again exceeded the yield level of 100 c/ha. In a conversation with the head of the enterprise, Stanislav Sokolovsky, we learned about how the grain harvest went and what concerns are on the farmers’ agenda these days.
Finished it in 10 daysIt took farm specialists that long to immediately add 9,589 tons of grain to the all-Belarusian loaf. And this is from an area of just under a thousand hectares! The result is solid.
“The average yield was 105 c/ha,” explains Stanislav Cheslavovich. – We were very pleased with winter wheat, we had about 700 hectares of it, as well as barley. To be honest, we did not expect such good results, especially due to the weather factors that occurred in the spring. But when the first equipment went out into the fields, we looked at the dynamics, and it became clear: the loaf would turn out good!
The head of the enterprise believes that the result could have been even more impressive.
– I talked quite a lot with specialists in the field. Everyone is sure: if there had not been such a drought in May-June, the yield and gross harvest indicators could have exceeded our wildest expectations. Nevertheless, we are very pleased and continue to remain one of the best enterprises in the country in terms of the amount of grain collected per hectare,” says Stanislav Sokolovsky. As for the work of machine operators, drivers and other specialists, the head of Gastellovskoye OJSC notes: every single one of them worked hard to achieve an “excellent” rating.
“We prepared well for the harvest and carried it out in an exemplary manner. We used all our strengths and reserves to achieve results. Before the harvest began, we slightly updated the fleet, purchased a new combine, carried out diagnostics and provided the necessary maintenance to the remaining machines. As a result, they showed a decent result. And the main thing is that the harvest turned out to be of high quality,” emphasizes Stanislav Sokolovsky.
The last harvest turned out to be almost exemplary in one more way.
“We were able to arrange the work cycle so that the machine operators went to the field at 10 am and finished at 20:00. That is, people did not feel excessive tension. I think this is how it should be. All processes in an enterprise must be structured clearly and thoughtfully to avoid unnecessary shocks and fuss.
The fourth mowing will be
Weather conditions made serious adjustments not only to the sowing and harvesting campaigns, but also to the procurement of feed. The late spring drought brought the issue of feed security to the forefront. Fortunately, over time the weather subsided. These days, the farm specialists have just completed the third mowing of grass.
“The first mowing did not please us at all,” Stanislav Cheslavovich recalls the events of spring. – The second campaign went much better. We have just finished the third mowing - about 5 thousand tons of haylage have been prepared. With a plan of 18 thousand tons, we managed to procure about 17 thousand. Considering the good weather and moist soil, we expect to make a fourth mowing, as a result of which we will cover the need for haylage.
Make way for corn and beetsThe Gastellites have many tasks ahead. On the 20th of September, the farm will begin harvesting sugar beets. Last year, crop yield varied at 800 c/ha. They are still counting on numbers no less. The entire volume of the “sweet” harvest will be supplied to the Gorodeya Sugar Refinery.
“We also plan to collect potatoes from an area of 36 hectares. Our second bread has some special features. Most of the crops are located in lowlands. Considering possible precipitation, we will try to remove the potatoes as quickly as possible. We plan a month in advance, but it’s better to get it done early. The digging has already started,” says Stanislav Sokolovsky.
The final and one of the key chords of the 2023 season will be the harvesting of corn for silage.
– An important aspect for agriculture. So far this crop does not have enough dry matter. Nevertheless, we plan to begin work in the coming weeks.
As for winter crops, farmers have already sown rapeseed on an area of 420 hectares. By the way, the crops have already sprouted.
“And they are showing good growth thanks to the recent rains.” We have also begun sowing winter wheat; in total, over 600 hectares remain to be sown. 100 hectares each are allocated to triticale and barley. The equipment is ready. Our task is to complete the process before October 20th. But we are determined to cope by the beginning of the second month of autumn,” explains the head of Gastellovskoye OJSC.
Summing up the results of the current harvest, Stanislav Sokolovsky thanks first of all his employees. Each of them tried their best.
“This did not go unnoticed by the management; we gave bonuses to the employees.” I am sure that many of our employees will be recognized at the district and regional levels. To summarize, I want to say a simple phrase: despite all the “buts,” we worked confidently and, most importantly, effectively. Many thanks to all our specialists. Their merit cannot be overestimated. Already these days we are seriously thinking about the coming year. There is a lot of hard work ahead, but very necessary for us and the country as a whole,” summarized Stanislav Sokolovsky.
The leader puts concern for people first. The average monthly salary at Gastellovsky for 2022 is about 2 thousand rubles, and since the beginning of 2023 it has exceeded this figure. It is customary here to reward hard work for the holidays: for the Day of Agricultural Workers, they issued a bonus in the amount of a thousand rubles; for the New Year, gifts were purchased at the expense of the trade union and transferred from 300 to 500 rubles for the festive table.
Thanks to the effective work of OJSC "Gastellovskoye" it has financial instruments for the construction of its own housing. One house was built 10 years ago. Soon the company's stock will be replenished with another high-rise building with 125 apartments.
The team is regularly replenished with new personnel. Young people, as management says, are the future.
OJSC "Gastellovskoe" is a small farm. The area of agricultural land barely exceeds 4 thousand hectares. Nevertheless, from year to year, the company’s specialists show impressive results in both the quantity and quality of the harvest, setting an example for many agricultural organizations in the country.
Over 55 tons per day - this is the amount of milk produced at Gastellovskoye OJSC. Raw materials, mainly extra grades, are supplied to one of the capital's city dairies. It produces tasty and healthy products.
In total, the dairy complexes of the enterprise contain 1,755 heads of dairy herd. And the total number of cattle exceeds 6 thousand heads.
