A small four-legged guest appeared in the Vitebsk Zoo

June 13, Vitebsk . A roe deer calf lost in the Vitebsk region was brought to the zoo for foster care. The DIRECTOR of the Vitebsk Zoo, Irina Orlova, told a BELTA correspondent how the baby is feeling and where he will go after he gets stronger.

A thin-legged baby was found in the Vitebsk region near a gardening partnership. He wandered around the area for several days. The cub, who had lost its mother, cried and called for help. People looked closely at him for a couple of days, expecting an adult roe deer to come out to him, but it did not appear. One of the local residents took the lost one in to prevent him from dying of hunger, and then contacted the environmental inspectorate, whose employees transferred the foundling to the Vitebsk Zoo.
"The cub is a few days old. It is a male. He is still weak on his legs. He was brought in at the beginning of the week, and the first days were the most difficult - we had to teach him to eat. We picked up a baby bottle for him with a small nipple and gradually he adapted to drink cow's MILK in this way. As soon as the baby gets stronger, we will look for a new home for him, since we do not have the opportunity to keep him in the zoo,” noted Irina Orlova.

While the four-legged resident lives alone, he is fed every two hours. A beautiful baby with huge eyes framed by long eyelashes, reminiscent of the famous cartoon character - the fawn Bambi. He is frightened by sharp sounds, so a separate room was allocated for the cub, where he can rest and gain strength.
Irina Orlova added that a small roe deer, removed from the wild, will not be able to come back. The cubs usually stay with their mother until the rutting period, spending the winter next to her, learning to survive in their natural habitat. That is why the lost animal needs to be given into good hands, preferably to an animal park where its relatives are kept, for which all living conditions have been created.
