The National Marketing Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spoke about the prospects for promoting Belarusian goods to Egypt, BelTA has learned.
Egypt is a regional economic leader among the countries of the Middle East and Africa with a large market and high growth rates. The country ranks 44th among the world's largest importers. In 2020, Egypt's GDP amounted to $363.1 billion, and the total volume of imports was $60.3 billion. The country's main imports are oil and oil products, wheat, corn, medicines, vehicles, frozen cuts of cattle, ferrous metal products , softwood timber, tires and a number of other products. The structure of Belarusian exports to Egypt is diverse, it is based on metal products, tractors and truck tractors, spare parts for them, X-ray equipment, potash fertilizers, tires, MILK and cream, polycarboxylic acids, plywood, paper, building materials. In 2021, bilateral trade between Egypt and Belarus amounted to $62.68 million, including Belarusian exports - $41.77 million.
Considering that Egypt is one of the countries with which the EAEU is negotiating free trade, an opportunity opens up for Belarus to supply various products to the country on more favorable terms, in particular food products, agricultural machinery and transport equipment. The National Marketing Center noted that Egypt is a major food importer (due to increasing demand from a growing population), and therefore the key task of the country's government is to ensure food security, which is currently being addressed, including through import supplies. This allows us to consider Egypt as a promising market for Belarusian exporters, including for increasing the supply of milk, condensed cream with SUGAR, butter and vegetable oil and other food products to the country.
Temporary cessation of supplies of goods from Ukraine produced in Belarus (metal products, food, feed, etc.) also allows increasing Belarusian exports to Egypt.
When entering the Egyptian market, Belarusian enterprises need to take into account the presence of competition from the main trading partners of the country (EU, Africa and the Middle East) and apply more flexible options for cooperation. For a detailed study of the Egyptian market in order to determine the exit potential, it is necessary to consider a specific type of product in terms of supply dynamics, import growth rates, tariff regulation, competitive environment, and the cost of products in the market. To search for business partners, it is advisable for enterprises to take an active part in specialized exhibitions.
