The sharpest jump in food prices in the last 10 years has been recorded in Latvia

February 22, Minsk. Over the past year, the most rapid increase in food prices has been recorded in Latvia - 7.9%, according to Delfi.

The last time similar inflation indicators in Latvia were recorded in 2011.

According to the Director of the Department of Macroeconomic Statistics of the Central Statistical Office (CSO) of Latvia, Intars Abrajuns, in January 2022, food prices have already increased by 9.4%.

Most of all in January vegetables have risen in price. Compared to 2021, their price has increased by more than 20%. However, residents now pay 30% more for cabbage, onions and carrots. Vegetable oils, milk , cheese and eggs also became more expensive.

Meanwhile, bread and grain products have risen in price by an average of 10% over the year. In addition, Intars Abrazhuns said that some products, such as potatoes and buckwheat, have become 60% more expensive.

Experts predict that prices will not fall in the coming months.
