Spain records its highest rise in food prices in 30 years

May 13, Minsk. In Spain, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 10.1% in April compared to the same period in 2021, according to the Spanish newspaper 20minutos.

According to the publication, this is the highest figure in the history of price observations in the country, which have been conducted by the National Statistical Institute (INE) since 1994.

The growth in the cost of the consumer basket is already exceeding the country's overall consumer price index, which settled at 8.3% last month. In fact, of the twenty goods that rose the most in Spain in April, 12 were food or drink.

The most expensive last month was olive oil (by 42.5% compared to April 2021), pasta (25%), flour and cereals (23.2%), eggs (21.6%); sauces and spices (15.2%), baked goods (14.5%), whole and skim milk (14%), butter (12.8%), fresh vegetables (12.8%) and potato chips (12 ,8%).

The prices for poultry meat (12.7%), baby food (12.1%), beef (11.4%), coffee (10.7%), cocoa (10.2%), fresh fish (9 .7%), fruits (9.5%).
