The Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MART) has requested information from the Ministry of
HEALTH, the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services, the State Standard, the Ministry of Nature and Business regarding the exclusion of disposable plastic tableware from public catering facilities.
"In accordance with Clause 2 of the Instruction of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus No. 02/102-243/7608r of July 4, 2019, on the need to work out the issue of excluding the use of disposable plastic tableware in public catering facilities The MART asks government agencies and business associations to indicate their position on this issue by 25 July 2019, the antimonopoly authority said in a letter.
The agency asks to indicate the problems with the disposal of disposable plastic tableware and its volume. The MART will also calculate the number of catering facilities that use plastic and study the circumstances that prevent the use of tableware in catering facilities.
it is worth recalling that in Belarus, Directive № 7 was adopted in 2019, which refers to a phased reduction in the number of polyethylene packaging and its replacement with safe packaging, including glass and paper.
In late March, the European Parliament introduced a ban on disposable plastic plates, containers, glasses, dishes for fast food, forks, knives and spoons in the EU. Taboo is also imposed on the production of cocktail straws and cotton swabs. The law will come into force in 2021.
