
November 29, MINSK. Belarus plans to receive at least 10 million tons of grain and 6 million tons of potatoes per year by the end of the five-year period. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Subbotin at a joint meeting of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic in the Oval Hall of the Government House, BelTA has learned.
Alexander Subbotin noted that despite the fact that the food security of Belarus is steadily ensured, there are prospects for increasing the efficiency of agricultural production. To solve the strategic tasks facing the country's agro-industrial complex, a draft state program "Agricultural Business" for 2021-2025 has been developed.
"As part of the strategic objectives for the next five years, the economically viable production volumes necessary to ensure food security and increase EXPORT potential have been determined. An increase in grain production to 10 million tons, potatoes - 6 million tons, vegetables - almost 2 million tons, MILK - 9 .2 million tons, livestock and poultry - 2 million tons. Subject to the achievement of the target volumes of agricultural production and a favorable price environment, an increase in the export of food products and agricultural raw materials to $7 billion is predicted. This is the milestone we set ourselves the goal of reaching by 2025. We hope that we will reach it much earlier," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
The main goal of the "Agricultural business" program is the sustainable development of agricultural production, raw materials and food sufficient to ensure the food security of the republic and increase the export potential of the agro-industrial complex, increase labor productivity and competitiveness of products. The program provides for the development of production and sale of crop and livestock products, breeding and seed production, breeding in animal husbandry, support for small business forms, technical and technological modernization of enterprises, development of land reclamation, implementation of direct measures of state support and preferential lending to current activities.
