Corn harvesting started in four districts of the Vitebsk region

August 24, Vitebsk. Corn harvesting started in four districts of the Vitebsk region. Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Sergei Egorov told reporters about this, BELTA reports.

“Four districts of the region have started harvesting corn and are already putting it in silage and haylage trenches,” he noted, explaining that we are talking about Verhnedvinsk, Polotsk, Glubokoe and Postavy districts.

“Due to the fact that the drought affected not only the fodder field, but also the grain field, a decision was made to transfer 85 thousand hectares of grains, legumes and cruciferous vegetables to the forage group. This gave an additional two fodder units for the region as a whole. These crops were also harvested for grain haylage, and public livestock farming will be additionally provided with feed,” said Sergei Egorov.

According to him, about 25 farms have completed grain harvesting completely. Some areas have removed more than 90% of these crops.

Speaking about MILK production in the Vitebsk region, the chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Food noted that positive dynamics are predicted here. “Taking into account these weather conditions and the fact that 70% of the dairy herd is grazed on pastures, this heat dynamically influenced the increase and decrease in milk production. Today we are growing compared to last year, increasing by 20 tons daily. The dynamics should remain positive, because now the weather conditions are favorable for grazing livestock on pastures," he clarified. “The regrowth of grasslands that are used for grazing has begun actively. We see that the dynamics will exceed the level of last year."

Today, among the main topics at the meeting in the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee are issues of the work of the industrial complex of the region this year, feed procurement and others.
