
Shrovetide is an ancient Slavic holiday, reminiscent of a carnival.
There is no specific date in the folk calendar for Maslenitsa.
The holiday begins exactly 8 weeks before Easter, this year on March 8, and lasts a week.
Monday - "Meeting".
Fairs open, places for festivities are prepared, a Maslenitsa doll is made.
Tuesday - "Game".
From that day on, they begin to visit each other and ride down the hills. Unmarried girls guess.
Wednesday - "Gourmet".
Sons-in-law go to their mother-in-law for pancakes.
Thursday - "Broad Thursday".
A wide Maslenitsa begins: they bake and eat a lot of pancakes, dance, have fun, and participate in fisticuffs.
Friday - Mother-in-law evening.
The newlyweds invite the parents of the bride. The son-in-law is obliged to personally call the mother-in-law.
Saturday - "Sister-in-law evenings".
Young daughters-in-law invite their husband's relatives to their place and present them with gifts.
Sunday - "Seeing".
An effigy of Maslenitsa is taken around the village and, at sunset, is burned on a large fire. On this day, it is customary to ask for forgiveness from each other.
Recipe for pancakes for Maslenitsa:
Take 2 eggs, a pinch of salt and mix well.
Pour half a glass of flour, add vegetable oil and stir.
Then dilute the dough with milk to the consistency of liquid sour cream.
Pour the dough into a pan with vegetable oil.
When the edges of the pancake start to brown, lift it with a spatula and turn it over.
Each finished pancake can be lubricated with butter.
