February 2,
Moscow . The countries of the Eurasian Economic Union will continue to implement the joint project for the implementation of accelerated rail and multimodal transportation of agricultural products and food "Eurasian Agroexpress". BELTA was informed about this by the press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission following the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council held on February 2 in Almaty, at which a report on the progress of this project was considered.
The report states that Eurasian Agroexpress increased
EXPORT supplies of high-margin food from the
EAEU countries by the end of 2023. “The greatest increase in exports was shown by grain legumes (more than 4 times), as well as fat and oil products (by about 20%),” said Andrey Slepnev, member of the Board (Minister) for Trade of the EEC. The main transportation destination for the project is now
CHINA . Also last year, supplies were carried out by container trains along the eastern branch of the international North-South transport corridor towards India and Iran. A pilot delivery to
Uzbekistan has been completed , and shipments to the UAE are being worked on.
“We plan to intensify efforts to remove restrictions on access to promising markets for quality food produced in the countries of the union. We carry out this work on a systematic basis, and one of the results was the resumption of direct rail deliveries of products to the PRC, the access of which the Chinese had limited by anti-Covid measures, "- noted Andrey Slepnev. “At this stage,
it was possible to restart
MEAT , poultry,
MILK and confectionery through Dostyk-Alashankou. The early opening of at least three more border crossings will allow our countries to significantly increase supplies, which is what we are focusing on.”
“Based on the results of consideration of the report, the heads of government of the EAEU countries expressed support for the continuation of the project, and also confirmed the priority of expanding areas and increasing the volume of exported products,” the EEC added.
The initiative to implement the joint project "Eurasian Agroexpress" in order to develop regular mutual supplies of agricultural products and food, as well as export supplies in the Asian direction, was adopted by order of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council dated February 25, 2022. The total volumes of transportation by Eurasian Agroexpress in 2023 exceeded 450 thousand tons. The key nomenclature of the cargo base was oil and fat, fruits and vegetables and canned
goods , grain legumes , as well as chicken and
beef .
