Snopkov: prices for most food products in Belarus are lower than in neighboring countries

May 25, Minsk. Prices for most food products in Belarus are lower than in neighboring countries. This was stated by First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic, BelTA has learned.

“People have always been highly concerned about the availability of goods in stores and the level of prices for them. The main calculation of the sanctions was on the hype, empty shelves and, as a result, the discontent of the population. In March, there was indeed an increased demand not only for a number of food products - flour, cereals, stew, baby food, hygiene products and household chemicals, but also for durable goods - refrigerators, building materials. A special hype arose for pharmaceutical products, "said Nikolai Snopkov.

To stabilize the situation, restrictions were adopted on the export of a number of goods and a list of items prohibited from import from unfriendly countries was established. At the same time, prohibited goods were replaced by alternative suppliers in March, especially citrus fruits, vegetables and fruits. "Thus, we have taken all possible steps so that our customers do not feel the lack of individual products or failures in the saturation of the domestic market. A wide range of products is offered for sale for buyers with different income levels. Despite the complexity of the situation, we managed to find a balance between saturation of the consumer market and the level of prices. Despite their growth, for most food products they are lower than those of our neighbors," the First Deputy Prime Minister noted.

According to him, this situation has become attractive for ordinary citizens, especially Western neighboring countries. From April 15 to May 15, a simplified procedure for the arrival of citizens of Lithuania and Latvia to Belarus was in effect, and has now been extended until the end of the year. In total, more than 54 thousand citizens of Latvia and Lithuania have arrived in our country since April 15. "They also help us increase retail turnover for food and medicine," added Nikolai Snopkov.
