Senator: it is important to prevent abrupt and unreasonable price increases

April 14, Grodno. In today's situation, it is important to prevent the abuse of retail chains, abrupt and unreasonable price increases. This opinion was expressed to a BelTA correspondent by a member of the Council of the Republic Igor Gedich.

The senator noted that control over the level of food prices is an important task facing not only senators, but also many government institutions. "I think that in today's situation it is important to prevent the abuse of retail chains, abrupt and unreasonable price increases. And in principle, we have created all the conditions for this not to happen: legal acts have been adopted in the legislative plane that require strict compliance. And Based on the results of monitoring that we constantly conduct, retail chains adhere to these requirements and there are no questions,"

Price monitoring takes place both in state retail chains and in private ones. According to Igor Gedich, in general, there is no shortage of goods. He also stressed that there is no unreasonable overpricing. "The increase in prices exists within the limits of 0.3% indicated at the legislative level. But this is natural based on the processes that are taking place. After all, there are now inflationary expectations, there are logistical nuances. But there is no unreasonable overpricing. And no shortage of goods is expected "We know that there are restrictions on the export of certain foodstuffs from Belarus. We also know that our agriculture and processing industry are operating quite efficiently. Therefore, food security will be ensured at the highest level," the senator noted.

On behalf of the Chairman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova, senators constantly monitor prices for food, socially significant goods. “Today, as part of this work, I visited a store of one of the retail chains in Grodno. And based on the monitoring results, I can say that about 85% of the goods presented in this retail chain are Belarusian manufacturers. There is a certain range in terms of limiting trade markups. For example, if the maximum trade markup for eggs should be no more than 25%, then in this store it is 20%. For baby food, up to a maximum of 15%, here - only 12%. The trade markup for milk is 11% with a maximum of 15%, - clarified Igor Gedich.

He also noted that the owners of retail chains understand the full responsibility: customers in each chain are offered discounts, there are special conditions, which, for example, are provided to pensioners. "All these mechanisms are working and I can say that there are no problems with the supply of goods, storage and the range of goods," the senator concluded.
