Agrarians of the Grodno region, like all agricultural workers in the country, do not have a break for work. On May 1, workers from farms in the Grodno region are working in the fields. Sowing corn, fertilizing, harvesting green fodder for livestock - the cycle of spring field work does not adapt to the holidays. BelTA correspondents went to the fields and asked the local farmers what mood they are working in on May Day.
“We don’t have holidays. We will celebrate when we achieve results. This will be a real holiday for us. Those who want to relax, let them rest, and we work,” says Oleg Bondarevich, a mechanic at the Denshchikov SEC, with a smile, whom we briefly distract from harvesting winter rapeseed. For a man who has been working in agriculture for 31 years, going out into the field on holidays is a common thing.Oleg Bondarevich during the year in the fields. By the way, in 2022, at the harvest, he became the first in the Grodno region in terms of grain threshing. “In 2006, I received the Lexion, before that I worked on the Don. Last year, I harvested 4.6 thousand tons of grain on a 16-year-old combine. And for the 26th time I will go to harvest on a new combine ", he shares.
The machine operator is sure that in agriculture, as elsewhere, there must be specialists who invest their soul in the land, in technology. "Grain to grain, spikelet to spikelet - and there will be a result. All the efforts and means invested in agriculture must give a return - MEAT, MILK, grain," notes Oleg Bondarevich.
Ilya Khamitsky, a colleague and driver of the SPK named after Denshchikov, supports this. "We do everything that is needed, regardless of the weather or the calendar. And on May Day, work is more fun. Not in vain - Labor Day!" - says the man. He has been driving a heavy truck for 13 years already, and has been working in this farm for the third year.
In general, the sowing of early spring cereals has been completed on the farm: spring barley has been sown on an area of 500 hectares, and spring wheat on 250 hectares. SUGAR beet occupies 600 hectares on the farm, green peas - 55 hectares. “We have 234 hectares with winter rape. Now we are completing the harvesting of this crop for green fodder. We plan to get about 2 thousand tons of green mass. After organic matter will be introduced, we will plow the field and sow corn, which will be harvested for green mass,” said chief agronomist of the SPK named after Denshchikov Dmitry Shintar. The farm notes that winter crops endured the cold perfectly, so they are counting on a good harvest.
In the battle for a good harvest both on weekdays and on holidays, the workers of the Progress-Vertelishki agricultural cooperative. Gennady Radevich is busy with sowing corn. We are just in time for the moment when the machine operator leaves the seeding unit for lunch.
"The mood today is just May Day - excellent. We must try to sow on time, while the earth is wet, so that the seedlings are. After all, as we work, we will live on. It's not the first time for me to go out in the field on holidays - we always go out if necessary. Today in pairs with Ivan Sidorevich. He does the pre-sowing treatment, I sow after it," says the machine operator.
An equally important post is the workers of the catering department of the economy. “The sowing season is a hot season. It is important that our workers are well-fed, full of energy, so that they can work productively. That is why we are trying. Today we have chicken soup, fried pasta and APPLE compote on the menu,” says Svetlana, a catering distributor Bodak.
The woman adds that after working May Day, she and her husband will go to the pool: "So actively and finish Labor Day."
