June 24, Minsk . The first exchange trade in semi-finished rabbit meat took place at the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange, the exchange's press service told BELTA.

To assess demand from Belarusian consumers, one ton of Category A frozen rabbit fillet was offered for sale in the "Meat, Dairy Products , and Live Cattle" trading session. The product originated in Russia . The entire amount of rabbit meat offered for sale was purchased during the trade, with the transaction value amounting to Br36,200. The buyer was a domestic baby food manufacturer.

"This year, agricultural products account for over 40% of BUCE's turnover, and sales of dairy products, meat products, and livestock are among the fastest-growing segments in this category. Moreover, the range of products offered at auctions is regularly expanding. For example, last year, Holstein breeding heifers and Russian Heavy Draft stallions were sold on the domestic market for the first time through the exchange. The appearance of new products at auctions largely depends on market participants, with whom the exchange maintains constant contact and, if necessary, assists in the sale or procurement of products of interest. The recent rabbit meat auction is a clear example of the exchange's prompt response to customer requests," commented the BUCE press service.

According to exchange data, from January to May 2024 , meat, dairy products, and livestock worth a total of Br191.5 million were sold at exchange trades for the domestic market, which is 5.3 times more than in the same period in 2023. The largest volume of transactions was for frozen and chilled meat and semi-finished meat products.
