Murashko announced the independence of Russia from the import of foreign COVID-tests

Russia does not depend on the supply of foreign test systems for detecting coronavirus and other diseases, Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said, RIA Novosti reports.

“The domestic industry is developing very actively, and, in fact, we are independent of the arrival of foreign test systems on the territory of the Russian Federation for the diagnosis of COVID-19 and a number of other diseases,” Murashko said. He added that over the past two years, more than 400 test systems for diagnosing diseases have been registered in the country.

In addition, the minister pointed to the stability observed in the pharmaceutical market, including with regard to drugs from the list of essential drugs and pricing policy. According to him, all issues with manufacturers and wholesalers are resolved "in the incident management mode."

As of April 18, 9,434 new cases of COVID-19 infection were detected in Russia per day. This is the minimum since June 7, 2021. Nevertheless, Murashko noted that in some European countries and China there is an increase in the incidence of coronavirus, so the arrival of a new wave cannot be ruled out. The minister admitted that the number of detected cases of infection could increase in late May-June.

For the diagnosis of coronavirus, direct methods (detection of the pathogen) and indirect methods (detection of the immune response) are used. The former include PCR testing and rapid testing for antigens, while the latter include an antibody test.

On April 14, Rospotrebnadzor announced the registration of the world's first isothermal test AmpliSens® SC2-IT, which can simultaneously detect two different regions of the SARS-CoV-2 virus genome. “The new development not only ensures high detection of the virus, but also significantly reduces the likelihood of obtaining a false negative result,” the department noted.
