Usually people come to the Vileika region to relax on the picturesque banks of the Vileika Reservoir or to visit the unique village-museum of Zabrodye. But there is one more point on the map that is worth including in the tourist route - the Vileika District House of Crafts. How he can surprise guests is in the BELTA material.
A small estate, where folk traditions are carefully preserved and popularized, is located near the regional center, in the village of Izbino. There are several creative workshops, a permanent exhibition of folk art works, and temporary exhibitions are organized here. The fence at the entrance to the building is stylized to resemble the facades of peasant huts, on which platbands are placed.Outside the region, the Vileika House of Crafts is famous for its egg museum , which displays hundreds of exhibits made from a variety of materials: wood, clay, wax, etc. In the days before Easter, the folk trail traditionally does not overgrow here. Excursions are scheduled by the hour. it all started in 2006 with a small office.
“We are constantly adding to the collections. Craftsmen who exhibit here donate their works. And residents bring antique household items,” said Inna Kazakevich, HEAD of the House of Crafts.
Among the latest gifts are birch bark tues. Beautiful cylindrical boxes are made by a local resident. Such kitchen utensils were widespread in RUSSIA, but for Belarus they are a rare phenomenon. Thanks to the unique multilayer structure, birch bark served as a thermos - it maintained the set temperature for a long time. Folk craftsman Viktor Silvanovich, a native of the agricultural town of Lyuban, a member of the amateur association "Vytoki", works as a mechanic at a water utility. In his free time he creates for his own pleasure. “He presented about 30 pieces to us. The exhibition turned out to be a resonant one, we had to extend it for more than two months - such was the interest,” noted Inna Kazakevich.
One of the new areas of activity is visiting master classes. The House of Crafts also offers various game programs, including for graduation, for New Year's holidays, and quests. You can celebrate a child’s birthday by booking an excursion and entertainment and educational activities. “Children, for example, enjoy sculpting with clay. We also go to schools with lectures on folk crafts, take part in regional events, events, teach children how to make various souvenirs for the holidays. We post information on social networks so that as many people as possible know about us "Schoolchildren from Bobruisk recently came to prepare a research project. They took first place," the head of the institution shared the latest news.
The main value of the House of Crafts is talented creative people who create beauty around them and are ready to teach traditional crafts to young people. There are four masters of folk crafts on staff.
Marina Golumbevskaya makes protective and ritual dolls. She admits that for her they are like children . “In childhood, the family was large. Grandmothers, aunts - relatives, cousins, second cousins - were all needlewomen. Some knitted, some embroidered, some weaved. And I was taught all this from the age of 9,” she shared her story. “When the idea came to become puppet maker, I don’t even remember. The first doll turned out to be smaller than the size of a palm, it fell into my soul. Now there are more than 40 works in the collection. I do some things to order and give them as gifts. I also do embroidery. I love what I do. I can’t sleep , work on needlework until the morning. In the process, the image changes, small details are added - I don’t know what will happen.”
Among the exhibits are krupenichki (filled with buckwheat, protect the prosperity of the home), bereginii (protect from evil and adversity, bring good luck and preserve family happiness), mamushki (nannies for newborns), plantains, etc. The plans are to create large interior dolls with faces made of gypsum
Researcher Daria Gordey-Golumbevskaya at the House of Crafts is the main expert on motanka dolls that our ancestors made for holidays and significant events. They were made from fabric and threads and filled with medicinal herbs. On the stylized panel, which is intended as a folk calendar, there are lovebird dolls, swaddling clothes, a kuvatka, a Jura horse, a “finger bunny”, birds...
"Lovebirds were given to the newlyweds as a wedding gift, hung in the red corner under the icons. When children appeared, the figures moved apart, and babies were hung between them. Swaddling clothes were made when a newborn appeared in the house. The father made a blanket from his own shirt. To distract the evil spirits from the woman in labor, with she went to the barn, sat on the nest with eggs and screamed. The birds were made for the holiday “Gukanne Viasny,” Daria initiated journalists a little into the traditions of her ancestors.
Natalya Danilevich is a master of clay crafts. In the House of Crafts, on the shelves there are orderly rows of animal figurines, pots, candlesticks, medallions of her authorship and more. Modeling from clay with the skillful guidance of a specialist is a favorite hobby of children. “If they had told me eight years ago that I would be doing ceramics, I would never have believed it,” she said. “But this is what happened in life. I tried it and it became addictive. Although at first it seemed that a man should do pottery. What I love most is "make candlesticks in the shape of houses - they look beautiful in the interior, they make it more comfortable. They order for housewarmings, for weddings."
The exhibition presents products made using various techniques. There is a special kiln where the ceramics are fired. Jugs, cups, plates, figurines are covered with glaze. Processing methods such as milking, smoking and scalding are also used. “For example, for scalded ceramics, a special tincture of rye FLOUR, MILK, and SALT is used. A hot product is lowered into it. The flour is baked and a beautiful color is obtained. You can also use burning sawdust for work, then the surface becomes black and acquires a metallic tint,” she explained Natalia.
For five years now, Vileika resident Vasily Kaptyug has been working as a blacksmith at the House of Crafts. Over his long life, he tried himself in different professions - he was a welder, an accompanist, and went to sea. Using his example, he shows that a creative person can do anything - perform at concerts and master artistic forging.
He has at least a hundred works in his collection: metal frames for mirrors, lanterns, candlesticks, benches, tables, swords. My favorite piece is a violin-shaped fireplace set. Last year, the master took second place in the category “Autarskiy rabot” at the international festival-competition of blacksmith craft “Znich” as part of the arts festival “Slavic Bazaar in Vitebsk”. He began as a soloist in the folk ensembles “Vesyalinka” and “Sukvetstse”, and worked in the regional House of Culture.
“I knew the technology of working with metal, so it was not difficult to retrain from a musician to a blacksmith. I started on my own, without any help,” he said.
Having visited the Vileika District House of Crafts, we were convinced that the region is rich in talents. Here they preserve the traditions of their ancestors and introduce the younger generation to folk crafts.
