MINSK . Tensions in the agricultural sector, which are currently being observed due to farmer protests in Europe, may foreshadow future imbalances during Ukraine's eventual accession to the European Union. This is stated in an article in the French newspaper Le Figaro.
“Polish farmers dump tons of corn from Ukraine onto railway tracks,” writes Le Figaro. These actions shocked Ukraine, becoming another episode in the dispute between Warsaw and Kiev.
The conflict between the two allies began after the European Union suspended customs duties on agricultural products imported from Ukraine in May 2022 to support the country's economy. Since then, there has been an uncontrolled influx of Ukrainian products into border countries, causing protests from farmers. Farmers claim that their
products are uncompetitive.
The material notes that the markets of Lithuania and Latvia are flooded with Ukrainian
MILK, and in Italy there is an oversupply of wheat. The authors of the article conclude that
it is necessary to return to Ukraine the quotas and duties that were in force until 2022.
“The agricultural lobby in
the EU continues to actively pump up the topic of returning quotas and duties on
the import of Ukrainian agricultural products to the European Union,” the Strana publication comments on this news.
