Famous Belarusians recall the beginning of the 90s: there was nothing to feed the children, crime flourished

February 26, Minsk. Well-known Belarusians shared their memories of the early 90s in the film "Where the Motherland Begins" on the air of the TV channel, BelTA informs.

The authors of the film recalled that in November 1991 a government of young reformers was formed in Moscow. The main religion is the market, which will regulate everything. Citizens are explained: free prices will not rise much - by 2-3 times, but the anti-people deficit will disappear, and abundance from under the counter from the shadow market will be on all the counters of the country. However, in January 1992, prices immediately increased by 5-10 times even for essential goods. Former Soviet citizens learned what galloping inflation is.

"Soviet cooperation ties and the single market will last another year on Soviet banknotes. Contrary to agreements between the republics, the young reformers are carrying out a draconian financial reform, new Russian money has been issued. The republics, including Belarus, are left with waste paper for already shipped goods. That is, the galloping Belarusian "bunnies" - this is not a Belarusian idea, this is a forced reaction to the decision to financially cut off the former Soviet allies," the authors of the film noted.

Honored Economist of Belarus, Chairman of the Board of the National Bank in 2011-2014 Nadezhda Yermakova recalled: “It was during this period that my second daughter was born. And there were moments when there was nothing to buy milk for.” “Of course, the area is rural, so it was easier for us. We, Shklovites, practically all worked in our gardens, were engaged in the production of cucumbers on an industrial basis. I also grew cucumbers and sold them myself. What was there to do? children had to be raised," she said.

“I remember how my mother stood in line at night to get bed linen on cards. We stood with her at night,” said Nadezhda Lazarevich, deputy chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, general director of the Bobruiskagromash holding (2018-2022). “I remember how I with a can went for sour cream, milk. And these queues are crazy. "

In the mid-90s, there was a catastrophic lack of money. "The "menagerie" is in use, but inflation is such that the "bunnies" themselves very quickly become waste paper. For example, the smallest nominations - "squirrels" - 50 kopecks each. They are calculated in briquettes without removing the bank packaging. Cashiers know: in one briquette 100 banknotes is 50 rubles," they said on the air.

Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly Vladimir Andreichenko recalled that crime and terrorism began to flourish. It was dangerous to drive along the highway from Brest to Moscow at night. "40% of industrial production was lost. Agriculture was thrown back decades. Housing construction was not carried out at all. People invested their money in the creation of cooperatives, but everything was frozen. Well, how did people live? Lost, firstly, their savings. It was a huge tragedy for people. Inflation is 130% per month. It was a systemic crisis of the state," he said.

"Maybe we were somehow supported by the fact that our deputy was in the Supreme Council - Alexander Grigoryevich (Lukashenko. - Approx. BelTA). And he was so loud, declared himself, demanded what should be done. Of course, we we felt that this collapse would someday end and everything would come into its own system," Nadezhda Ermakova shared her memories.
