FOLK SIGNS

International Day of Peaceful Coexistence. The UN General Assembly adopted resolution 72/130 proclaiming May 16 as the International Day of Peaceful Coexistence, emphasizing that its observance is a way of regularly mobilizing the efforts of the international community to promote peace, tolerance, unity, mutual understanding and solidarity, as well as expressing its commitment to the desire to live and to act together, maintaining unity without abandoning differences and diversity, in order to achieve sustainable peace, solidarity and harmony throughout the world.

DEVELOPMENTS

1889 - the text of the outstanding monument of Belarusian literature - the anonymous Belarusian-language poem "Taras on Parnassus" - was first published in the newspaper "Minskiy Listok", which had previously been distributed only in handwritten form.

1958 - the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus was founded.

1986 - Maxim Bogdanovich Museum was opened in Grodno. It was founded as a literary department of the Grodno Historical and Archaeological Museum in the house where the Bogdanovich family lived. In 1995 it was transformed into an independent cultural institution. The museum stores items of spiritual and material culture associated with the life and work of M. Bogdanovich. Among the exhibits are the personal belongings of the poet, the original photographs of the Bogdanovich family, the originals of the author's collection "Wreath" of the 1913 edition, etc.

1995 - a new state flag was raised over the residence of the President of the Republic of Belarus, adopted at a referendum on May 14, 1995.

2001 - by the decision of the Novogrudok District Council of Deputies, the emblem and flag of the city of Novogrudok and the Novogrudok District of the Grodno Region were approved.

BORN

1911 - Vitka Vasil (present Krysko Timofei Vasilyevich), Belarusian poet, Honored Worker of Culture of Belarus (1970). He worked as the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Litaratura i mastatstva", the magazine "Vyasyolka". A significant place in the work is occupied by satirical poems, parodies, epigrams. Author of the collections "Loyalty", "Rose and Bayonet", "Seeing the Summer", etc. He translated into Belarusian the novel "Lord Golovlev" by M. Saltykov-Shchedrin, the poem by V. Mayakovsky "Good!", individual works by L. Tolstoy, I .Rainis, M.Stelmakh and others. Laureate of the State Prize of Belarus (1972). He was awarded the Honorary Diploma of the International Jury for the H. Andersen Prizes (1978) with the inclusion of the poet's name in the honorary list of the Danish writer. Died in 1996.

1938 - Lutsevich Anatoly Vasilyevich, actor, Honored Artist of Belarus (2000). He worked at the National Academic Drama Theater named after Ya. Kupala. Acting talent was most fully revealed in the roles of the Belarusian national dramaturgy. Among the roles: Sidorovich ("The Gates of Immortality" by K. Krapiva), Krynitsky ("Pavlinka" by Y. Kupala), Alyosha Gubaty ("People in the Swamp" by I. Melezh), etc. He acted in films and television films. Died in 2002.

1947 - Zhlobo Lyudmila Alexandrovna, Belarusian architect. Among the works in Minsk: the reconstruction of the Gorky Park and part of F. Skorina Avenue (now Independence Avenue), the reconstruction and restoration of the palace and park ensemble in Nesvizh, etc. Laureate of the USSR State Prize (1989).

1950 - Polivoda Igor Igorevich, Belarusian composer, pianist. Graduated from the Belarusian Conservatory. In 1976-1984 he worked in the vocal and instrumental ensemble "Pesnyary", since 1988 in the State Orchestra of Symphonic and Pop Music of the Republic of Belarus. He worked mainly in the field of vocal and instrumental music, in which he created an original song style. Among the works: the cantata "Words", the pop opera "Maxim" on the verses of M. Bogdanovich, songs on the verses of Belarusian poets. Died in 1996.

1955 - Korbut Olga Valentinovna, Belarusian athlete (artistic gymnastics), Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (1972). Champion of the XX and XXI Olympic Games (1972, 1976). Silver medalist of the Olympic Games in exercises on uneven bars (1972), silver medalist of the European Championship in the individual championship (1973). World champion, silver medalist (1974). Silver medalist of the European Championship (1973). In 1972, she was recognized as the best athlete in the world. Lives abroad.
