April 8, Grodno. An assessment of the future harvest of this year in the Grodno region suggests that we will be able to provide for ourselves, as well as supply products to the foreign market. This opinion was expressed to a BelTA correspondent by Chairman of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee Vladimir Karanik.
"For the Grodno region, agriculture is not only a contribution to the country's food security, which will be provided in full, but also a good EXPORT. If we take MILK processing, then only 30% of the products go to the domestic market, 70% are exported to countries with which we have established foreign trade operations, and our products are in demand there. As for the products of our MEAT processing plants, more than 50% goes to the foreign market. And at the moment our task is to maintain this momentum. And also to expand the geography of deliveries," said Vladimir Karanik .
He stressed that the world's food is becoming an increasingly valuable resource. "We see how food prices are skyrocketing in neighboring countries. We see forecasts that for various reasons many countries will face food shortages. Therefore, all agricultural workers in the Grodno region are aimed at doing their work as efficiently as possible, complying with all technological regulations to get a decent harvest this year," Vladimir Karanik added.
In the Grodno region, the sowing of early spring crops has been completed on more than 75% of the planned areas. At this stage, only weather conditions are a limiting factor for the farmers of the region. Only the northern regions of the region lag behind in the sowing campaign. Wintering of winter crops went well. There is a small percentage of losses compared to last year. At this stage, the feeding of winter crops is almost completed.
