August 26,
Minsk. Refugees from Afghanistan talk about the rude attitude of the Latvian authorities towards them and about the refusal of asylum. This was reported to BelTA at the State Border Committee.
"The migration situation on the Belarusian-Latvian border continues to remain tense. On August 25, border guards of the Bigosovo outpost of the Polotsk border detachment stopped another attempt to illegally force migrants from the territory of Latvia to the territory of Belarus. In particular, employees of the Latvian State Border Guard, using physical force, delivered 21 citizens of Afghanistan to the state border line, 11 of them are children," the CPC said.
The migrants explained to the border guards that they arrived in Latvia on August 23 in search of better living conditions with the aim of moving on to Germany. After being detained by the Latvian border guards, they were kept in poor conditions, medicines and hot meals were not provided, even the request to provide
milk for small children was ignored. Subsequently, despite statements about granting refugee status, two days later the whole group was fraudulently taken to the border with the Republic of Belarus in different places, saying that Latvia does not accept refugees and cars are waiting for them to be taken to Germany.
As foreign citizens told the Belarusian border guards, they were brought to the border line at night and sent by force in the direction of Belarusian territory.
