June 3, Smolevichi district. The output of main types of agricultural products in Belarus exceeds the country's needs. This was stated by Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko during the plenary session “Food Security of the Eurasian Economic Union,” BELTA correspondent reports.
“In Belarus, much attention has traditionally been paid to the development of the agro-industrial complex. The industry accounts for about 7% of the country’s GDP and provides more than 250 thousand jobs. The established standardization and certification system guarantees the production of safe and high-quality products. In recent years, the production base in Belarus has been significantly updated.
Livestock complexes are being built and modernized , equipped with modern equipment and technologies, and innovative approaches to crop production are being introduced,” said Roman Golovchenko.
The output of main types of agricultural products per capita exceeds the country's needs. The level of food self-sufficiency in Belarus in recent years has not fallen below 94%. “This is confirmed by world rankings.
Belarus is among the top five exporters of dairy products and the top 15 leading exporters of
MEAT products. Our country’s share in mutual trade with the
EAEU countries in food products reaches 40%, including 86% for dairy products and eggs, meat and offal - 61%, finished products from meat and fish - 73%," the Prime Minister noted.
Since 2020, Belarus has been consistently promoting initiatives to form a balanced agricultural market of the EAEU, based on a modern system for forecasting the development of the union’s agro-industrial complex and in-depth interstate cooperation. “We have made significant progress in creating common markets for seeds of agricultural plants and breeding animals, and forming a common market for organic agricultural products. The created mechanisms make
it possible to reduce administrative barriers to trade. The EEC portal has a Map of the Development of the Agricultural Industry, which presents more than 170 investment and innovation projects. The resource allows our enterprises to more effectively use the opportunities to form interstate cooperation chains,” the
HEAD of the Belarusian government noted.
“I would also like to remind you of the initiative of the Belarusian side to supplement the EAEU agenda with the issue of biological safety, which includes such components as the quality of food products, sanitary-epidemiological and epizootic well-being of the territories of the union member countries,” added Roman Golovchenko.
