Croatian farmers fear losing half their corn and soybean crop due to drought

August 23, MINSK. In Croatia, dry weather has destroyed half of the future crop. This was stated by farmers during a meeting with the government of the country, reported.

There was no precipitation for almost three months. The most affected by the drought are corn and soybeans: "Over 50% of crops are under threat, we demand the declaration of a natural disaster," the country's national television quoted Croatian farmers as saying.

Agricultural producers today spoke with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and members of the Cabinet of Ministers. Croatian agrarians assume that losses could amount to more than 130 million euros. Earlier, the Croatian government announced the payment of financial assistance in the amount of more than 26 million euros.

As the HEAD of the Croatian Chamber of Agriculture, Mato Brlosic, told media representatives, farmers asked to pay the promised financial support earlier - about 80% in October. Also, those present demanded to reduce administrative restrictions for agricultural producers, pointed to problems with the supply and use of fuel.
