
The plant in Villecomtal-sur-Arros is fully converting to the production of plant-based UHT products, mainly from oats, for the Alpro brand.
This will be an injection of 43 million euros to install new lines and manufacture products to supply the French and European markets. Production is scheduled for the second quarter of 2023.
In 2021, the company invested 16.5 million euros in the existing Alpro site in Issenheim.
Danone noted that in France, the plant-based food market has tripled over the past seven years and is expected to grow another 50% by 2025. The new project means that by 2024 in France, the company will be able to increase its UHT beverage production capacity by more than 25%.
François Ayraud, Managing DIRECTOR of Danone Fresh Products France, says the project will enable Villecomtal-sur-Arros to support a growing market by becoming the benchmark for oat-based drinks in Europe while reducing its carbon footprint by 70%. .
Dairies in Bayolle, Pays-de-Brets and Saint-Just-Chaleissin will receive a total investment of €24 million to adapt their production facilities to produce fresh dairy products, mainly for the Danone, Activia, Danette and Light & Free brands.
