Exchange trading accounted for more than 20% of trade turnover between Belarus and Azerbaijan.

May 5, MINSK . In 2024 , transactions concluded by Azerbaijani companies on the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange accounted for over 20% of the total trade volume between Belarus and Azerbaijan, with the exchange turnover between the two countries increasing almost 2.5-fold compared to 2023. This data was shared by Alexander Osmolovskiy, Chairman of the Board of the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange, speaking at the Belarusian-Azerbaijani Business Forum in Baku, the commodity exchange's press service told BELTA.

"There are 156 Azerbaijani business entities accredited on the exchange. About a third of them regularly participate in trading. As last year, lumber is in the greatest demand among Azerbaijani importers. This product accounts for over 90% of our countries' exchange trade turnover," emphasized Alexander Osmolovskiy. "However, the situation is gradually changing, and based on this year's statistics, we can see an increase in the share of agricultural products in the structure of exchange transactions. In particular, sales of Belarusian MILK powder, butter, and MEAT products to Azerbaijan

are growing dynamically. Based on the results of the first four months of 2025, purchase volumes of these goods already exceeded the combined figure for all of 2024 by 30%. I consider this a positive trend, demonstrating the high interest of the Belarusian and Azerbaijani business communities in using the exchange mechanism." On the sidelines of the Belarusian-Azerbaijani Business Forum, the first BUCE broker in Azerbaijan, SAMA-ZT LLC, was awarded an accreditation certificate. As explained by the commodity exchange's press service, the company will focus on attracting new participants to the exchange and, if necessary, will assist them with transactions, settlements, and logistics.

Furthermore, to enhance interaction with the Azerbaijani business community, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between BUCE and the Small and Medium Business Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (KOBIA). The BUCE press service noted that combining the efforts of the agency and the exchange will allow for more effective communication with Azerbaijani entrepreneurs about opportunities to work on the Belarusian trading platform and will contribute to increasing the exchange's share of the trade turnover between the two countries.
