The barrier's been removed. Russia has lifted restrictions on Belarusian beef.

July 9, ROSSELKHOZNADZOR abolished temporary restrictions on the supply of beef, produced by some Belarusian enterprises, to RUSSIA. July 6, the movement of beef from Belarus through Russia was resumed, reported the press service of the EEC.

The decisions were taken as a result of bilateral negotiations between Belarus and Russia.

"Thus, we consider eliminated the barrier related to restrictions on the supply and movement of beef, produced by some Belarusian enterprises, to Russia and through the territory of the Russian Federation," said Minister for Domestic Markets, Informatization, Information and Communication Technologies of the EEC Gegham Vardanyan.

Earlier, the EEC Collegium informed Russia about the need to execute the Union's right. As a result of the monitoring conducted by the EEC Domestic Market Functioning Department, it was found out that the Rosselkhoznadzor has suspended the supply of beef to Russia and the movement of several Belarusian producers through its territory to the EEC countries.

According to Gegham Vardanyan, rapid response to the elimination of barriers contributes to the development of the economies of the Union countries.

It should be reminded that problems with beef supplies to Russia from Belarus have occurred more than once, both in 2017, when exports from MINSK Oblast were limited, and in 2019, when in spring Rosselkhoznadzor introduced restrictions on the import of beef on bones and cattle from countries that do not have official status of the International Epizootic Bureau for Spongiform Encephalopathy, including Belarus.

At the end of the year beef exports to Russia fell by 40% to $222.4 million.
