Arla builds a dairy farm in Nigeria to support local MILK production

Farmer-owned dairy cooperative Arla Foods will build a commercial dairy farm in Northern Nigeria.

Through a public-private partnership that supports the development of the Nigerian dairy sector, the company will train and support around 1,000 local dairy farmers.

The 200-hectare farm in Kaduna, scheduled to open in 2022, will house 400 dairy cows, state-of-the-art milking parlors and equipment, pasture and living quarters for 25 employees.

The farm will be a model of modern commercial agriculture in Nigeria. Over time, it is expected to produce more than 10 tons of milk per day, which will be processed at the Arla Dairy Plant in Kaduna State, which produces dairy products for Nigerian consumers.

Nigeria is one of the fastest growing countries in the world. By 2050, its population should approach 400 million people. Currently, Nigeria's dairy sector is only able to supply up to 10% of the country's dairy needs, and this gap is expected to widen with population growth.
