The ban on the export of beef from the Novosibirsk region was extended for a year

The ban on the EXPORT of beef from the Novosibirsk region due to the lack of vaccination against foot-and-mouth disease in cows, which was planned to be lifted in 2021, was extended until May 2022 by the decision of the World Organization for Animal HEALTH (OIE), said Vladimir Goppe, HEAD of the veterinary department of the Novosibirsk region.

Earlier, the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance changed the status of the region to safe without vaccination, but not recognized by the OIE, which imposed restrictions on the export of animal products, mainly MEAT, to regions with a different status. The restrictions were planned to be lifted by the summer of 2021.

- We had a ban on the export of beef, as a region bordering the Republic of Kazakhstan. All these processes are under the control of the OIE. In order to eliminate this, it was decided to abandon it in four border regions. Unfortunately, due to the fact that we were considered a common bunch of regions and one of them - the Tyumen region - did not stop vaccination, the OIE decided to postpone this permission until May 2022, Goppe said.

In August 2019, cattle vaccination in the region was discontinued in order to recognize the entire territory of RUSSIA free from FMD without vaccination, which allows agricultural enterprises to export their products outside the Russian Federation without restrictions. In June 2019, most of the territories confirmed this status, but the Novosibirsk Region was not among them. The status of the region was not recognized by the OIE due to its proximity to Kazakhstan, where there is a constant threat of infectious animal diseases.

The department noted that the export ban applies only to unprocessed products. All beef products made in the Novosibirsk region can be sent to other regions.
