Foot-and-mouth disease continues to spread in Hungary and approaches Austria

The Hungarian authorities are implementing all measures provided for in Delegated Regulation 2020/687 to control the newly affected area. In addition, in order to reduce the risk of the virus spreading, they have ordered emergency vaccination to suppress a new outbreak while the culling of animals is carried out, which is scheduled for March 28. Finally, a complete 72-hour stoppage of the movement of susceptible species and a ban on their use of pastures have been imposed in the counties of Győr and Mónssonmagáryóvár. Only animals from farms in both counties located outside the exclusion zone may be sent to the slaughterhouse for immediate slaughter.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food recommends tightening protocols for cleaning and disinfecting vehicles, as well as increasing awareness of existing risks and passive surveillance on farms, immediately notifying the official veterinary services of the Autonomous Community of any suspected disease.
