An outbreak of bird flu was registered in the south of Kalmykia

The death of wild birds occurred in the bed of the Podmanok River, 4.5 kilometers from the village of Yuzhny. The virus RNA was isolated from the discovered remains of a cormorant and a pelican on April 4 at the Republican Veterinary Laboratory. 

On Thursday, April 6, the HEAD of Kalmykia, Batu Khasikov, signed a decree on the introduction of quarantine on a plot of 100 m². The threatened zone and the surveillance zone are defined with a radius of five and 10 kilometers, respectively.

According to the reference laboratory for viral diseases of birds of the ARRIAH, the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus of the H5N1 subtype was identified in the sample .
