In the vicinity of the villages of Kalinino and Blinovo in the Volodarsky district of the Astrakhan region, 99 Red Book Dalmatian pelicans were found that died from highly pathogenic avian influenza.
The regional veterinary service takes the necessary restrictive measures. Residents of both villages have been warned of the threat. They are advised to observe poultry and immediately report all cases of its death to the veterinary service.
Kirill Litvinov, Deputy DIRECTOR for Research at the Astrakhan State Reserve, clarified that the pathogen that killed Dalmatian Pelicans does not pose a danger to farm poultry: the virus is specific to this species. Nevertheless, sanitary and environmental measures are being taken in the reserve to prevent epizootics.
