Viktor Yevtukhov announced negative profitability of egg sales in retail chains

"You know that the chains have taken on the obligation to maintain the markup [on socially significant goods]. <…>; For some items, the chains are currently operating with negative profitability, for example, for eggs, understanding that they cannot raise the price, they must be contained," he said.

The Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade noted that there is no decrease in the number of eggs in stores. According to Rosstat and the Ministry of Agriculture, the production volume is at the level of last year, Viktor Yevtukhov emphasized.

At the same time, according to him, the population began to spend more money on food products.

"In the non-food group, we are also seeing sales growth. In catering, there is significant growth. If demand increases, it must be covered by supply. This is what our chains are doing. Trade fulfills all the tasks set by the state. I would like to note that in recent years, retail chains, like all Russian trade, have demonstrated a responsible approach to issues that are socially significant for the country. I believe that this is why we have gone through all the difficult periods, starting with the pandemic, very effectively and successfully," concluded Viktor Yevtukhov.
