Vietnam resumes pork exports to Asia

Despite the ASF crisis that began in February 2019 and is now present in 21 locations in the country, Vietnam has been able to resume pork exports to various markets in the region. In recent years, dozens of enterprises have invested a lot of resources (many invested thousands of billions of VND) in building very modern closed pork production chains. As a result, many types of pork from Vietnam have been approved for EXPORT to other countries in the region and to world markets, such as Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, Australia, etc.

“In recent years, the Department of Animal HEALTH has actively supported, given detailed instructions and notified pork exporters regarding the preparation of documents and requirements for production conditions. As a result, more countries are expected to be willing to check Vietnam's pork production chains to ensure that all requirements for export authorization are met. Therefore, local residents and businesses are encouraged to continue to invest and create appropriate conditions in accordance with the recommendations of the World Veterinary Organization (OIE) and importing countries, which are approved by the Department of Animal Health,” says the latest GENESUS Market report.

The country has now increased pork imports to meet domestic demand. In the first two months of 2021, pork imports increased by 88.7% in volume and 107.5% in value compared to the same period in 2020.
