“According to information from Emergency Hospital (emergency hospital - RBC) No. 8, as of September 11, 2023, 8 cases of anthrax infection were laboratory confirmed in residents of the Bogucharsky district. All patients are in moderate condition. In addition, a resident of the Paninsky district continues treatment in the hospital,” the department said.

Cases of anthrax infection have been recorded in the region since August. The first outbreak was identified in the Krasnye Holmy village of the Paninsky district. In part of the territory of this district, as well as the adjacent Novousmansky district, a state of emergency was introduced until November 16. On August 18, the first infected local resident was hospitalized. He contracted the disease after cutting up the carcass of a sick animal.

The second outbreak was identified in Voronezh itself, in the MEAT department of the “1000 Little Things” market in the city center. The products containing the anthrax pathogen were destroyed. Quarantine restrictions were introduced on the market; they were lifted on September 1.

On September 8, the Voronezh department of Rospotrebnadzor reported that anti-epidemic measures were being carried out in the Bogucharsky district against the backdrop of the emergence of anthrax cases. “The cause of the disease was the cutting of the carcass of an infected animal,” the service explained. After this, quarantine

was also introduced in part of the territory of Bogucharsky and the neighboring Kantemirovsky district  until December 20. As RBC-Chernozemye writes, another outbreak of anthrax was found - on a dairy farm in the village of Lebedinka (Bogucharsky district).
