Vaccination campaign against foot-and-mouth disease organized in the Volgograd region

More than 700 thousand heads of cattle and small ruminants will be vaccinated in the 1st quarter of 2022 - such a measure is necessary to prevent a dangerous disease. In total, more than 2 million animals will receive protection against foot-and-mouth disease this year. Thanks to effective prevention in the territory of the Volgograd region, cases of this disease have not been recorded since 1985, the press service of the regional government reported.

Due to the worsening of the FMD epizootic situation in neighboring Kazakhstan, owners of personal and farm enterprises, heads of enterprises of the Volgograd region are recommended to pay special attention to compliance with the rules for keeping artiodactyl animals, as well as to organize timely immunization - vaccination campaign-2022 to prevent dangerous animal diseases in the region already started.

According to the Veterinary Committee of the Volgograd Region, about 2 million heads of animals are vaccinated against foot and mouth disease annually, and in the 1st quarter of 2022, it is planned to treat at least 700,000 heads. Experts remind that the vaccination is free and available in all subordinate institutions.

However, vaccination does not cancel the obligatory observance of other measures: it is necessary to purchase feed only from reliable suppliers from sanitary-friendly territories; regularly treat places where animals are kept; to exclude access to the territory of farms of unauthorized persons, the importation of unprocessed inventory. All newly acquired animals must be registered by the owners, and the animal must be quarantined before entering the herd.

Recall that foot and mouth disease is an infectious disease of a viral nature. The disease causes great economic damage. If certain rules are not followed, including personal hygiene, people can get sick. The main route of infection is through the raw milk of sick animals and its products, as well as through meat. All cases of detection of animals with suspected foot and mouth disease (ulcerative formations on the surface of the body, mucous membranes) must be immediately reported to the state veterinary service.
